Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Friday March 13, 2020

Dear VOSM clientele,

We would like to acknowledge the thoughtful questions and concerns that have been shared with us as we respond to the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We appreciate your feedback and incorporate it into decision making. Pathway and VOSM leadership remain watchful and sensitive to concerns. We will continue to provide email updates regarding hospital preparedness; updates may be more frequent if the situation warrants.

What preventive measures are we taking?

Our priority is the health and safety of our staff, patients, and patient parents. With this in mind, please ensure adherence to the below procedures:

 PET PARENTS / CLIENT AREAS

  • We are requesting pet parents not come into the hospital if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. If you are experiencing symptoms, please send a representative in your place with plans to communicate over the phone.
  • Signs regarding minimizing exposure are now posted at the entryway and in pet parent areas.
  • We are asking all clients to clean hands with Purell or hand-washing when they sign in with their pet.
  • The Client Service Representatives are wiping down computer keyboards, phones, pens and countertops at the start and end of each shift.
  • We are asking all employees to wipe down doorknobs, keyboards, countertops and chairs in addition to their regular cleaning of exam tables after pet parents exit exam rooms. Containers of Lysol wipes have been put in each exam room for this purpose when available.

We ask that employees adhere to the following:

  • Prioritize hand washing when you arrive at the hospital and frequently throughout the day.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow (or a tissue). When you cough or sneeze, dispose of the used tissue immediately.
  • Maintain at least 3 feet of distance between you and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. Refrain from shaking hands and hugging to reduce contact exposure time.
  • Call out of work if you are feeling sick.

Please note that there is a shortage of surgical masks. The use of surgical masks at VOSM is limited to surgery / surgical procedures (eg, dirty wound management in the ER) and the handling/administration of chemotherapy. Reuse surgical masks if deemed medically appropriate.

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is presenting an unprecedented global challenge and we believe it’s important to react appropriately and keep this global health issue in context. Below are some of the sources we believe to be the most reliable, independent and credible.

We appreciate your cooperation,

Your VOSM Team
