Orthopedic Surgery

Our surgeons are extensively educated and specialize in orthopedic surgery for dogs, such as arthroscopies, cruciate ligament repairs (particularly TPLOs), fracture repairs and joint replacements. Their expertise is highly sought after, resulting in numerous cases from across the nation and around the world. In addition, our surgeons are distinguished among the lecture circuit, contribute to multiple veterinary publications each year, and are actively engaged in clinical research and instruction.

Sports Medicine

The specialists at VOSM have a strong understanding of the activities performed by and injuries occurring in working and performance dogs (K9 units, agility dogs, etc.). They also understand not only the need to accurately diagnose and treat working and sporting dog injuries, but the requirements of returning canine athletes back to full performance. Included in VOSM's state-of-the-art facility is an advanced gait analysis system, which helps to objectively assess dogs for injury as well as provide a baseline for working and sporting dog performance assessments.

The Center for Regenerative Medicine

The Orthobiologic Innovations Center for Regenerative Medicine at VOSM has been providing stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma treatments for dogs since 2008, making VOSM one of the first sub-specialty facilities in the country to offer such promising treatments to its patients. The Center offers in-house cell collection and processing as well as cell culturing from its local university collaborators. The Center is currently using regenerative medicine technology for treatment of soft tissue injuries (tendons and ligaments) and osteoarthritis, as well as neurological conditions.

We are actively engaged in numerous clinical trials to objectively assess treatment response to various regenerative medicine processing techniques, combination therapies and treatment protocols. Dr. Sherman Canapp, Director of the Center, has the privilege of collaborating with leaders in the fields of human regenerative medicine with Dr. Victor Ibrahim and equine medicine with Dr. Jennifer Barrett.
